Launch of THE ARTS+ events series at the Berlinale: “Artificial Intelligence: a + for the Film Industry”

Continuing dialogue with digital pioneers from the creative sector

From “Metropolis” (1927) to “Blade Runner 2049” (2017) – the subject of artificial intelligence (AI) has inspired the visionary masterpieces of generations of directors. But what is the current state of technology for integrating AI into the production and distribution channels of the film industry? And how can the sector exploit the potential of AI?

On Friday, 16 February 2018, Holger Volland, Founder of THE ARTS+, invites five experts to discuss this and other questions at the Berlinale – Berlin International Film Festival. Under the heading “AI: From screen to creation – a + for the Film Industry”, Nadira Azermai (Scriptbook), Dr Matthias Röder (Herbert von Karajan Institute), Dr Marion Jenke (UFA GmbH), Robert Richter (Google EMEA Partnerships Solution) and Harald Neidhardt (futur/io) will offer insight into the latest developments in the field of artificial intelligence and its potential for the film industry. Following the presentations there will be small roundtable discussions. The detailed programme is available here. The events will take place as part of EFM Horizon, the European Film Market’s platform for innovation.

THE ARTS+: year round and sector specific

“Ongoing dialogue with digital pioneers from the cultural industries, economics and politics is very important to us – it’s the only way for us to gain insight into the demands of the respective markets and to discover new possibilities. I’m already looking forward to the coming months and to lively exchanges about the future of the creative and cultural industries”, says Holger Volland.

Other satellite events in the months leading up to THE ARTS+, the business festival of the Frankfurter Buchmesse (10-14 October 2018) for the future of the cultural and creative industries, are also being planned. The series’ discussions, talks and workshops will be held in various locations and in cooperation with various partners. The next stop is “THE ARTS+ @Tempo di Libri” in Milan on 12 March 2018, which will focus on digital storytelling – with, amongst others, speakers from the Fondazione Prada and Innovation Network for Cultural Innovation. Finally, the concept for the October programme features different daily themes with related interactive formats.
