About us

Frankfurter Buchmesse Join our group and start a discussion: https://www.linkedin.com/groups/42948 Once a year, the Frankfurter Buchmesse becomes the Global City of Ideas: the most important international trading place for content, from novels and children’s books to academic databases. Publishing professionals from around the world meet here with partners from the technology sector and from related creative industries, such as film and games; it is here that new cooperation agreements and business models find their first inspiration. At the same time, the Book Fair is also a huge cultural event which, for five days every year, turns Frankfurt on the Main into the centre of the international media world. Every year, about 7,300 exhibitors from more than 100 countries, around 286,000 visitors, more than 4,000 events and 10,000 accredited journalists and bloggers all combine to make the Frankfurter Buchmesse the biggest trade fair for the international publishing industry. The number of international visitors is constantly growing. One reason for this is that the Book Fair has long maintained an ardent commitment to the idea of “crossing borders”. For more than 20 years, in its B2B activities, Frankfurt has been open to the digital transition and the new players this brings with it: film and games professionals, business developers, IT specialists, investors, start-ups, bloggers and many more besides, now feel well and truly at home in Frankfurt. And the Book Fair is constantly developing new services and products, such as the Self-Publishing Area, which was launched to great success in 2013, and the Frankfurt Hot Spots – the meeting places for digital innovators. #GermanStories - Next stop: The Abu Dhabi International Book Fair We are once again represented with a German Pavilion at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair in Hall 8 F 05. The visitors can discover our German-language book collection with a focus on fiction and nonfiction, children’s books, literature in translation and excellent book design. ☕ Everyone who is on site is warmly invited to the reception of the German Embassy at the German Pavilion on Tuesday, 30 April 2024 at 5:00 pm. ℹ About the fair: The AIBF was established in the 1980s. From 2007 until 2013 it was organized by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage in cooperation with the Frankfurter Buchmesse, and grew to be the most international fair in the Arab World. Now run by the Abu Dhabi Arabic Language Centre, ADIBF is both an important gateway to the region's publishing market and a platform for important cultural policy issues and debates. Germany has been present at ADIBF every year since 2008.

The Comics Centre at the last Frankfurter Buchmesse will become the Comics Business Centre in 2024. And Arthur Derrouaz, Rights Manager at the Steinkis Group and an expert on graphic novels, will be there. How does he work? How does he experience book fairs? And what exactly is solastalgia? Our colleague Frank Krings spoke to Arthur Derrouaz about this in this interview. You can find the link in the comments.

Over the last couple of years, generational gaps in many workplaces have widened. The reasons vary: from a rise in ageism to the rapid pace of technological change to the continuous lack of diversity. In this session, we focus on the solutions: Discuss with our guests how to bridge knowledge and age gaps, how to work more inclusively, and how to set up your own business for more success. Register now for the May session of The Hof. Among others, publisher Anne Friebel (Palomaa Publishing), who has just been honoured with the PublisHer Excellence Award in Innovation, will be building bridges with host Felix Zeltner and other discussion partners.

    Mit Leidenschaft für starke Marken

Ciao Italia! This week the Fiera Bologna hosted the 61st edition of the Bologna Children´s Book Fair (BCBF). With more than 1500 exhibitors from around100 countries the BCBF is the biggest international trade fair for childrens and youth books. From April 8th-11th the B2B event adresses exchange and networking für publishers, illustrators and the rights and licensing industry. Similar to other international trade fairs Frankfurter Buchmesse organized a German Collective Stand and many publishers followed under the umbrella of "German Stories". One highlight this week was the reception to our happy hour on Tuesday celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Serafina Illustrator Award together with our italian colleagues. It was my first visit to Bologna. In the evenings I could enjoy the beautiful old town, some cozy restaurants and finally had the opportunity to pick up a sweet memory from the famous Venchi Cioccolato. #bcbf2024 #fbm2024 #Messe #fbmisreading Frankfurter Buchmesse

#LiteratureConnects - "The encounters at such a matchmaking event are always totally surprising. Especially when it's publishers from countries you haven't had much contact with before. What topics are they focussing on? What is similar? What's different? It's simply fascinating. It's rare for a book project to come about directly, but contacts are made that last for years and something is developed together," says Esther Mallm from S. Fischer KJB. Yesterday, publishing people from the Philippines (Guest of Honour 2025) and Germany met at our stand in Bologna for a matchmaking session. Tomorrow, publishers from Germany and Italy (Guest of Honour 2024) will meet. We love this big guest of honour meeting at the German Stories stand. #publishing
